On 11 February, a major tankfire broke out in an oil tank at United Terminal Korea in Ulsan, one of South Korea’s largest petrochemical hubs. A fuel storage tank was engulfed in flames, threatening nearby infrastructure and requiring immediate large-scale intervention.
The Hytrans HydroSub 1400F unit was supplying water to the MTS 12 monitor, delivering a continuous water flow of 45,000 litres per minute and achieving a vertical reach of up to 130 metres. Water was drawn from a nearby open sources using the Hytrans mobile submersible pump, ensuring uninterrupted supply. After only 15 minutes the whole system was installed. This high-capacity water supply enabled responders to bring the fire under control in just two hours, with full extinguishment after only three hours.
A sharp contrast to a similar 2018 incident which required 17 hours to contain the fire using traditional means. This time the Hytrans system played a vital role in a rapid containment. In stead of using 26 conventional fire engines, this time only one mobile high-capacity unit and a powerful monitor could do the job. Saving a lot of time, manpower, water and limiting the damage.
