During the night of 2 to 3 May 2024, a major fire broke out at cold storage and logistics company in the city of Oss, the Netherlands. The fire started in a large freezer space maintained at –20°C, which was filled with frozen food products. Despite the extreme temperatures, the goods caught fire and caused rapid fire spread. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown.
The incident quickly escalated into a large-scale fire. At its peak, all 38 fire stations in the Brabant-Noord safety region were active on site, supported by 250 emergency responders and partner organizations. What started as a small fire grew into a full-scale operation classified as GRIP 2 — a Dutch emergency coordination level indicating regional impact.
Continuous water supply for 82 hours straight
Due to the long duration of the incident, a Hytrans high-capacity water transport system was deployed to ensure a continuous and sufficient water supply. After 82 hours (almost 3,5 days), the fire was officially declared under control.
The deployment in Oss demonstrated the value of Hytrans systems during large-scale fire operations, where local water infrastructure and standard supply lines reached their limits. By enabling stable, high-volume flow for hours at a time, Hytrans supported the emergency services in maintaining control, even in this complex and resource-intensive situation.
