Lemmer, The Netherlands – The Leeuwarder Courant recently published an extensive article on Hytrans Systems. Although we are not known to everyone in Friesland – and even in Lemmer – emergency services and governments worldwide know how to find us effortlessly. The article shows how our mobile water systems play a key role in disaster relief and nuclear safety, from the French navy to the Swiss army and the German Bundeswehr.
From nuclear submarines in France and flooding in South Korea to alpine wildfires in Switzerland and large-scale emergencies in Germany—Hytrans Systems is at the forefront of global disaster response. Our advanced mobile water transport systems are relied upon by emergency services and defence organizations worldwide to minimize damage and save lives when every second counts.
“We might not be very well known in Friesland, but worldwide, disaster responders know how to find our manufacturing company unerringly. Whoever needs a mobile system for large water transport – really large – calls Lemmer.”
— Frank Bosveld, CEO
During a major wildfire in the Czech mountains, the nearest water source was 10 kilometers away—unreachable for firefighting helicopters. Within hours, the Hytrans system was fully operational. Through 10 kilometers of heavy-duty hose, powerful pumps pushed water uphill with 12 bar pressure into inflatable basins for helicopter refill. This operation perfectly illustrates the power and flexibility of Hytrans technology in the world’s most challenging environments.
Trusted by governments and defence forces around the world, Hytrans systems are currently deployed in over 60 countries. In Japan, all active nuclear power plants are equipped with our mobile systems, which serve as mandatory remote backup cooling units—an essential measure introduced after the Fukushima disaster. In France, our technology supports the country’s nuclear infrastructure, including the naval bases from which nuclear-powered submarines operate. Meanwhile, the Swiss Armed Forces rely on Hytrans solutions to effectively combat wildfires and industrial incidents in their challenging alpine terrain.
Demand from defence organizations is growing. Following large-scale incidents such as the 2018 Meppen wildfire during a military exercise in Germany, armed forces are increasingly investing in self-reliant large-scale water transport systems. With decades of field experience and fully certified equipment, Hytrans delivers robust and mission-ready solutions.
Climate change, nuclear preparedness, and the rise of large-scale disasters are driving global demand for reliable emergency infrastructure. Hytrans continues to grow in response, offering complete solutions—from engineering and manufacturing to training and life-cycle support.
