On July 11th, 2007, emergency services at a Shell refinery in Denmark discovered damage to the floating roof of a massive crude oil tank, 70 metres in diameter and filled with 33,000 m³ of oil. A full-surface fire was a serious threat. The site’s fixed water system could not deliver the 38,000 litres per minute needed to handle such an event.
Fortunately, just weeks earlier, Hytrans had demonstrated its mobile water transport system at the same location. The local fire chief remembered its performance and immediately contacted Hytrans.

Within hours, two trucks with equipment and technical crew were en route to Denmark. A 22,000 l/min mobile pump unit and a hose container with 1,500 metres of 12” hose were deployed on-site. After a short briefing with the fire chief, the team set up the pump and unrolled 600 metres of hose.
The full system was operational in under 90 minutes, preventing a large tank incident. The rapid response and deployment gave the refinery peace of mind and readiness to act if a fire had started.
This case shows the importance of fast deployment, high capacity, and experienced support. Hytrans not only delivered the technology, but also the expertise and speed needed to protect people, assets, and the environment in critical moments.
